Two recent bills signed by California Gov. Jerry Brown could help businesses grow by making troves of government data available online in easily accessible formats.

After Schock scandal, House curtails wasteful spending with disclosure and open data

The U.S. House Committee on Administration has moved forward with new rules on how members of Congress spend taxpayer dollars on auto mileage, air travel, office decoration and more. The resolution requires more detailed disclosure on travel spending and makes it more difficult for members to spend lavishly on office decor or chartered travel.

Virginia data portal aimed at improving transparency with police, public

Hampton Police launched an "open data portal" that allows anyone to access various types of information on its website.

Atlanta police department unveils open data crime portal

As a part of the Atlanta Police Department’s commitment to President Barack Obama’s 21st Century Police Initiatives, the new open crime data portal has been launched.

This searchable database will provide access to the most commonly requested Part 1 crime statistics, according to officials. As new datasets become available, they will be added to the portal. Continue…
