Nonprofit watchdog group says FBI snoops on WikiLeaks supporters

WASHINGTON (CN) – A nonprofit government watchdog claims the FBI refuses to release information on "the government's identification and surveillance of individuals who have demonstrated support for or interest in WikiLeaks."

The Electronic Privacy Information Center sued the Department of Justice's Criminal Division and National Security Division, and the FBI, in a FOIA complaint in Federal Court.

State police loses appeal over postmark in case involving release of patrol car video

LANSING, Mich. — A dispute over patrol car video could be costly to Michigan State Police.

The state Supreme Court has let stand a lower court ruling in an unusual lawsuit involving the Freedom of Information Act. An Ionia County woman sued state police after they failed to turn over traffic stop video in a timely manner.

Agencies are likely to miss 2013 declassification deadline

More than two years ago, President Obama set a December 31, 2013 deadline for completing the declassification processing of a backlog of more than 400 million pages of classified historical records that were over 25 years old.  But judging from the limited progress to date, it now seems highly unlikely that the President’s directive will be fulfilled.

LA supervisors, with governor, violate open meetings law: Just another oopsy? No biggie?

COLUMBIA, Mo. — It was so ho-hummedly and matter-of-factly reported that few would sense its importance when reading it.  

The district attorney’s office found that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors had clearly—and rather flagrantly—violated the state’s open meetings law when they met with Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown in a secret, closed-door meeting last fall to iron out details for moving thousands of state prison inmates to county jails.
