Gov. Chafee signs R.I. public records bill into law

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Gov. Lincoln Chafee on Tuesday signed a reworked public records bill into law that unseals government employment contracts and creates a so-called "balancing test" for disclosures modeled after federal statute.
The new law is the first significant change to the state's Access to Public Records Act (APRA) in 14 years and Chafee said he hopes it will make government more transparent in Rhode Island.

Campbell: Closed oil-shale session fails open-government test

Colorado Common Cause has raised concerns about a meeting Uintah County officials organized in Vernal with state officials and Carbon and Duchesne county leaders along with officials from Wyoming and Colorado counties. Common Cause filed records requests with the counties and received 450 pages, many of them emails, some of which indicate industry lobbyists helped craft a resolution that the counties later passed.

Maryland town may start website

MARDELA SPRINGS — Citing a need for more open government as well as to move toward the digital age, the town is looking at the possibility of creating a municipal website.The website would dispense local information to more than 300 residents who live in the municipality.
