Open Position: Outreach Coordinator
Description:
The National Freedom of Information Coalition is seeking an outreach coordinator to support a network of state open government organizations through programs that position them for success. Candidates should have strong communication, organizational and analytical skills. A background in nonprofits, journalism or law is a plus.
NFOIC was established 31 years ago to support specialized open government organizations with the expressed goal to protect the public’s right to know, specifically at the state and local level. We have 38 member organizations representing states and the District of Columbia, ranging in organizational structure from small, all-volunteer groups to those with permanent staff.
The person in this position should be able to coordinate and convene resources to help member organizations with their greatest needs, which include expanding diversity and collaboration in their local networks, improving fundraising, developing and maintaining sound organizational and corporate structures, and sharpening skills and knowledge to be effective champions of open government.
Experience required:
Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The candidate also should possess:
- Professional writing experience and proficiency.
- Experience with technology tools needed to produce webinars, virtual meetings, newsletters and websites.
- Familiarity with open government issues (public records and open meetings laws).
- Experience in marketing, networking, membership services, event planning and/or nonprofit administration.
Position details:
- 12-month contract position for $70,000, without benefits, with possibility of renewal.
- The outreach coordinator will report to an administrator in Gainesville, Florida, and a nationwide NFOIC Board of Directors committee, but may work remotely from his/her own location.
- Some travel will be required with expenses covered by NFOIC.

Semi-finalists will be interviewed via Zoom by the committee, and finalists by the full NFOIC board. The outreach coordinator position is funded from a grant by the Charles Koch Institute. NFOIC is a non-partisan organization supported by a broad spectrum of constituents that promote government accountability and transparency.
