What Governments and Public Institutions Need to Know
Open government state laws and policies covering open meetings and open records vary widely by state and can be confusing. Many NFOIC member coalitions provide training and education seminars on open government laws applicable in their states. The training can be particularly helpful for newly elected or appointed public officials as they take on their new responsibilities.
In some states, the training is provided by attorneys who are well-versed in the legislation and experienced in issues ranging from meeting notifications, FOI exceptions, open record petition response requirements, to digital, electronic records and social media.
Many state coalitions also offer training and education to the public including journalists and attorneys in their respective state open government laws.
If you are interested in what education services may be available in your state, contact us and we will connect you with a representative from the coalition in your state.
