Candidates for Oakland City Council have talked about crime and budgets and influence. But have they talked about enlisting citizens to help solve problems through sharing government data?A group of Oakland residents have asked City Council and City Attorney candidates to sign a pledge of open government principles including transparency, participation and collaboration. The group, largely made of people involved in the OpenOakland data projects that spilled out of the Code for Oakland hackathon last summer, have put their pledge on line. Members of this group are already working on data-driven answers in budget making, parking availability and finding help for high school students needing tutors.
