Charges for public documents under the state Freedom of Information Act would be reduced — and in some cases waived — if government units violate the law under legislation proposed in Lansing.The FOIA ensures access to public documents, and making a request under the law is the process by which members of the general public as well as reporters can gain access to government information.[…]House Bill 5879 would prohibit government units from charging more than 10 cents per page of requested documents or charging to view documents on-site.
